Project Overview
This commercial project involved emergency sewer line repair and replacement for Otis Moss Jr. Suites, a 4-story, 400-unit dormitory building. The plumbing team was called in to perform emergency ground-floor slab excavation to address an underground sewer line issue affecting the facility.
The Challenge
A main sewer failure occurred beneath the ground floor slab of a heavily populated, multi-story student housing facility. The underground sewer line required immediate excavation through the concrete floor in a main corridor/common hallway area, demanding quick containment, specialized excavation, and minimal disruption to the building’s operations and residents.
Our Solution Water Savers Atlanta performed emergency ground floor slab excavation and sewer line replacement. The team isolated the work area within the facility hallway, cut and removed the concrete slab to access the sub-grade plumbing, and replaced the compromised sewer piping directly beneath the building foundation.
Project Process
- Inspection & Work Area Preparation: The work zone inside the hallway was marked off using blue tape, safety cones, caution tape, and barricades to secure the area and protect residents. Protective plastic sheeting was placed along surrounding walls and doorways to contain dust and debris.
- Slab Removal & Excavation: Technicians saw-cut and opened the concrete slab in the corridor, excavating the soil underneath to expose the underground sewer line.
- Sewer Line Replacement: The compromised section of the sewer pipe under the concrete foundation was removed and replaced with new piping.
